Pharmacologic Category Antihistamine-H1-receptor antagonist Indications Prophylaxis and treatment of perennial and seasonal allergic or vasomotor rhinitis ; Prophylaxis and treatment of allergic conjunctivitis ; Treatment of pruritus , urticaria , angioedema and dermatographism ; As adjunctive treatment to asthma medications in patients with mild atopic asthma . Side Adverse Effects Anaphylaxis , Palpitations , Cardiac arrhythmias , Cholestasis , Hepatitis , Convulsions , Edema , Urticaria , Dryness of mouth and nose , Stomach pain , Nausea , Blurred vision , Difficult or painful urination , Dizziness , Drowsiness ( with high doses ) . Contraindications Hypersensitivity to loratadine or any component of the formulation . Warnings Precautions Patients with liver or renal impairment , Bladder neck obstruction , Symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy , Angle – closure or open – closure glaucoma . Pregnancy Pregnancy Category B. Breast Feeding Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed . Loratadine is not recommended during breast – feeding period . Drug Interactions Concurrent use of potent inhibitors of the cytochrome p450 enzyme system ( erythromycin , azoles , metronidazole ) may increase plasma levels of loratadine . Loratadine may increase the levels / effects of citalopram , diazepam , phenytoin , propranolol and sertraline . Protease inhibitors may increase the serum levels of loratadine . Administration And Dosage Usual adult and adolescent dose : Oral , 10 mg once a day ; Children 2 to 6 years of age : Oral , 5 mg once a day . How Supplied Syrup 5mg/5ml, Tablet , 10 mg .
