Warnings Precautions
Loperamide should not be used when inhibition of peristalsis is to be avoided in particular where ileus or constipation occur, and should be avoided in patients with abdominal distention, acute inflammatory bowel disease, or antibiotic - associated colits. Loperamide should not be used alone in patients with dysentery.
Pregnancy
Category B. Its safety in mothers is not stablished thus its consumption should be with caution.
Breast Feeding

Drug Interactions
Concomitant administration with Co-trimoxazole increases the bioavailability of loperamide.
Administration And Dosage
Loperamide is a synthetic opioid analogue which inhibits gut motility and may also reduce gastrointestinal secretions. It is an adjunct in the management of acute and chronic diarrheas and may also be used in the management of colostomies to reduce the volume of discharge.
In acute and chronic diarrhea, the usual initial dose for adults is 4-8 mg daily in divided dose subsequently adjusted as necessary. Dose of 16 mg daily should not be exceeded.
