Pharmacologic Category Selective H1 receptor antagonist, antihistamine. Mechanism Of Action Cetrizine hydrochloride, a piperazine derivative and metabolite of hydroxyzine is described as a non-sedating antihistamine which is long-acting and has some mast-cell stabilising activity. It appears to have a low potential for drowsiness in usual doses and to be free of antimuscarinic activity. Side Adverse Effects Reduced dosage is recommended for patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Precautions are: 1-Arrythmias 2-Liver dysfunction 3-Hypersensitivity 4-Sedation Headache, drowsiness, bronchospasm, hepatitis, fatigue, dizziness, neasua, vomiting, cough, ahdominal pain. Pregnancy category B. Breast Feeding Cetrizine distributed in to the breast milk. So not recommended. Drug Interactions Cetrizine has low hepatic metabolism and little arrhythmic potential. So concurrent consumption of drugs that have those speciallity should been noted.
